Lobos Rush College Advisory Program is specifically designed to support high school players aspiring to play soccer at the collegiate level by providing valuable resources and guidance.


James Beattie, the Director of Coaching at Desoto and College Advisory Program Director, is well-versed in the recruiting process, including NCAA, NAIA, and NJCAA rules, regulations, and restrictions. Our dedicated staff is committed to assisting all student-athletes in finding a pathway to college, helping them to realize their academic and athletic aspirations.


How to prepare year by year

Navigating college recruitment and the eligibility process from grades 9th through 12th can be challenging for student-athletes and their families. See below a check list of what to do each year during High School.

  • 9th grade | Freshman

    Focus on Skill Development:

    Work on fundamental soccer skills (dribbling, passing, shooting).

    Continue gaining experience by being part of your school and club teams. 


    Stay Academically Strong:

    Establish good study habits and maintain a solid GPA.

    Begin exploring academic programs that interest you.


    Learn About the Recruitment Process:

    Start familiarizing yourself with college soccer and the different divisions.


    Set Goals:

    Create short-term and long-term goals for both academics and soccer.

  • 10th grade | Sophomore

    Enhance Training:

    Continue improving skills through club soccer, camps, and individual practice.

    Focus on physical fitness and conditioning.


    Research Colleges:

    Begin researching colleges and their soccer programs.

    Attend local college games to observe the level of play.


    Start Building Your Profile:

    Register with the NCAA or NAIA eligibility center to meet requirements for college sports.

    Create a basic athlete resume and highlight video.

    Keep track of achievements and statistics.


    Engage with Coaches:

    Reach out to your high school and club coaches for guidance on recruitment.

    If possible, participate in College ID camps where coaches from the Universities and Colleges that interest you the most  are in attendance.


  • 11th grade | Junior

    Take on Leadership Roles:

    Seek to be a leader on your team; demonstrate commitment and leadership skills.


    Attend Camps and Showcases:

    Participate in elite camps and showcases to get exposure to college coaches.


    Develop a Recruiting Plan:

    Create a list of colleges you’re interested in and begin contacting coaches.

    Send introductory emails including your resume and highlight video.


    Maintain Academic Performance:

    Keep a strong GPA and prepare for standardized tests (SAT/ACT).


    Stay Active on Social Media:

    Share highlights and updates on your performance and achievements.


  • 12th grade | Senior

    Maintain Communication with Coaches:

    Follow up with coaches you’ve contacted and express your interest.

    Schedule campus visits to meet coaching staff and potential teammates.


    Complete NCAA/NAIA Eligibility Requirements:

    Register with the NCAA or NAIA eligibility center to meet requirements for college sports.


    Evaluate Scholarship Opportunities:

    Research and apply for scholarships related to athletics and academics.


    Make a Decision:

    After receiving offers, evaluate your options carefully and make your final decision based on your goals.
